Elder Abuse
Overview
In its most egregious form, acting contrary to an elderly persons’ interests can take the form of elder abuse. Elder abuse may be physical, psychological, sexual, financial, or based in serious neglect of the elderly person. This seminar discusses investigatory powers of the Public Guardian and Trustee and the Police in combatting elder abuse, and some potential criminal and civil remedies that are available, including a discussion about the Supreme Court of Canada’s anticipated decision on whether a tort of family violence exists.
